Troubles with KTM 1290 Super Adventure S authorized dealer Adventure Moto KTM, McKinney, Texas.
I love riding motorcycles, especially big adventure bikes. My previous bike was BMW 1200 GS Adventure. I only kept that for 5 months, but I must say this. BMW never let me down. I never had any trouble with the bike. I even once rode with below recommended oil level, never troubled me. One fine day I decided to change the bike and found this 2018 KTM 1290 Super Adventure S.
This is a beautiful bike, isn’t it? Looks wise I like this than my previous bike BMW 1200 GS Adventure.
I know looks are subjective and personnel matter, but still I like Orange over Bimmer. Any way back to the point.
All my joy was short lived, as soon as I find this error.
Adventure Moto KTM, McKinney, Texas determined that, this is due to a faulty sensor inside the front left suspension and it must be replaced, which is going to cost around 1200$. Wow.. cheap repair isn’t it? :)
Called KTM, N.A about their faulty WP suspension, the answer is standard. Suspension is out of warranty and we don’t stand behind our products. Go fcuk yourself. Having left with no option, we are back to Adventure Moto KTM, McKinney, Texas. They ordered the part and the part came after 2 weeks from Austria, W.P directly (according to them).
As you see from the above picture today(08/11/2021) they replaced the part, while I was waiting in the break room. It is supposed to be finished in less than 2 hrs. I was eagerly waiting for the call that the bike is ready. I was really hoping that this indeed a faulty suspension issue but nothing else. But to my doom, when I went into service area and check the bike, here is another error greeting me.
Ivan (Service Manager @ Adventure Moto KTM, McKinney, Texas) was fire fighting with diagnosis tool. I was dissappointed and went back to the work at break room. After 1 hr he came and updated me that the bike is ready and I need to pay the remaining bill. He also said that he is trying for a refund with KTM for that Catrige Capsule which they replaced for no reason and wrong diagnosis. I thought, yeah good deal.. Adventure Moto KTM, McKinney, Texas is so genuine after all, I was just thinking..
As per my trusted friend advice, I asked them politely whether I can test ride my bike to make sure that every thing is fine. They denied saying that I may run off with my bike by not clearing the bills. I’ve already payed for the part (737.59$) and its just the labor charges which was around 250$. I must clear the bills first to get the key, even when I offered that I will leave my belongings/D.L . Good Adventure Moto KTM, don’t trust your customer. They will not come back again for anything to you in the future.
Any way.. cleared the bills and the bike was waiting outside. To my shock, that PRELOAD ADJUSTER ERROR popped up as soon I start the engine. I immediately went inside, told Ivan that the error is still there. He did something again with his diagnosis tool and after 2 or 3min started writing a new work order. His argument was when they handover the keys, the error was not there. They don’t know what the hell I did outside in that 5minutes, where the hell I bought this faulty bike. I have an innocent question to the readers. Is KTM that fragile or Adventure Moto KTM, McKinney, Texas is not trust worthy and blame it on me. When I questioned him that this error was not there until now, Mr. Ivan got irritated, throw the key at me and asked me to get out from there.
I was shocked and saddened, my only option was to approach the lawyer for their treatment and repair. Disheartened I came back home thinking all the way what to do next. As soon I was close to my home like a “adding insult to injury” I was greeted again with that SUSPENSION ERROR.
Wow.. by paying close to 1250$, I successfully bought an additional error from Adventure Moto KTM McKinney, Texas
Except that SIDE STAND which is truly a warning, the remaining are not warnings. They indicate some thing faulty as per my knowledge. Please correct me if I am wrong.
I have no idea what to do next … :(
Yours Truly,
A sad KTM 1290 SAS owner.
